10 Days in Tokyo - Pictures

Here is a slide show I put together of my trip to Tokyo. I loved Tokyo and miss it much. Songs are "His Smile" from the Japanese movie "Love Letter" and "End Title" from the Korean movie "Failan". Watch in at least 480p or higher for better quality (the default 360p looks awful) and then maximum the size (if you wish).

All pictures were taken with a Canon SD850 in 16:9 mode. I made the slideshow in Picasa but then had to run it through Windows Movie Maker to add the music because Picasa kept on stuttering the audio.

For anyone interested, here is my itinerary that I came up with for my trip.  If you find any of this info useful, I strongly recommend double checking everything from opening/closing/start/end times and admission fees, etc. which may have changed since then and some places may not even exist any longer.  Enjoy!

Day 8 (Monday): Odaiba

Today I planned to spend the entire day exploring Odaiba, the futuristic manmade island. I took the Ginza line to Shimbashi Station and it took a little bit to find the transfer to the Yurikamone Line. It is actually located above ground so if you follow the signs and still can't find it, just know you probably have to head upwards up a flight of stairs. The subway on the Yurikamone Line is completely automated so there are no operators driving it. The line is well-elevated above ground so it's nice and scenic and gives you a good view of Tokyo, the river and the Rainbow Bridge. As most of the island's attractions are at the front of the island, you get to see many of them on approach. Day 1 (Monday): Arriving in Ginza, Tokyo

My plane got to Tokyo on time (around 3:30PM local time the next day) and it was nice and sunny. I popped into the bathroom right after getting off the plane and was unexpectedly hit with my first bit of Japan. Heated toilet seats complete with built-in bidet are a common occurrence in Tokyo public washrooms. It didn't matter if I was in a washroom at an upper establishment, a fast food place like KFC or at a subway station restroom. I wasn't brave enough to have my first bidet experience at Narita so I skipped over the spray button and went straight to flush. I knew my cellphone (HTC Touch, a GSM North American tri-band) wasn't going to get any reception but I turned it on anyways to see what would happen. Nothing, as I suspected. If you live in North America and are looking to take your cellphone in hopes of roaming while in Japan, you will need a 3G HSPA phone that will operate on the 2100Mhz band, something like the North American Blackberry Bold or Apple iPhone 3G/S.
